an introduction to

dental check-ups

Everyone wants to preserve their natural teeth for as long as possible.

One of the best ways of doing this is to attend regular check-ups with your Riverside dentist. Dental check-ups are the most effective way of enabling your dentist to carefully monitor the health and condition of your teeth and mouth. In doing this, they can identify any issues that could be developing with your teeth or oral health early on – before they cause painful or debilitating symptoms or affect your ability to use your teeth normally. Early diagnosis can also prevent the need for extensive, invasive and potentially expensive dental treatment.

DENTAL CHECK-UPS

All you need to know

What issues can be detected at a dental check-up?

Dental check-ups can be used to identify, diagnose and recommend treatment for a whole range of different dental issues. These include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Decay

  • Gum disease

  • Infection

  • Impacted teeth (such as wisdom teeth)

  • Broken or damaged teeth

  • Ineffective cleaning

  • Bite problems

  • Oral cancer

How often should I attend a dental check-up?

Every patient is different, and some may have dental problems that mean that they require closer monitoring than others. If you have a Riverside dental plan, your plan will include two dental exams per year. However, your dentist will advise you just how often you should attend regular check-up appointments and we strongly recommend that you heed this schedule.

What age should my child start getting dental check-ups?

Great oral health habits can start the moment your child gets their first tooth. We strongly recommend that you start to bring your child to see our dental team as early as possible. This helps them to get used to what to expect and can stop them from developing worries or fear about visiting the dentist. Our experienced team can also help educate your child on developing tooth-friendly habits that will set them up for a lifetime of great oral health.

What are the benefits of dental check-ups?

Regular dental check-ups can:

  • Preserve your natural teeth for as long as possible

  • Avoid serious dental issues, like infection and tooth loss

  • Spot the warning signs of dental issues early

  • Prevent you from needing expensive dental treatment

  • Keep your teeth functional

  • Keep your smile looking fantastic

  • Help your child to build tooth-friendly habits to take into adulthood

Do dental check-ups hurt?

There is no invasive treatment involved in a dental check-up, so you shouldn’t experience any significant or noticeable discomfort. Talk to our dental team if you are worried about your dental check-up.
